The Carnival International de Victoria, hosted by Seychelles and La Reunion in Seychelles, was this year passing the clear message that both these tropical islands supported and promoted sustainable tourism. Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, headed the island’s carnival 2012 on a battery-operated SEGWAY and was followed by an electric 4-wheel drive Jeep driven by Frederic Vidal, the GM of the MAIA Resort of the Seychelles with Pascal Viroleau, the Head of La Reunion Tourism (IRT), as his passenger with Miss La Reunion, Marie Payet, and the Seychelles Carnival’s Face, Mariana Tirant, standing on the back seat of the Jeep.

They carted a banner that stated very clearly the “Carnival Time in Seychelles supported Sustainable Tourism.” The French-built, battery-operated, 4-wheel drive Jeep is a first of its kind, and it was pleasing to many to see it drive around Victoria making no noise whatsoever. The battery-operated Jeep is eco-friendly and has been in Seychelles for the last two months to generate support for the drive to support the Seychelles Tourism Board’s approach to sustainable tourism. The island’s tourism board has only a couple of months ago launched its own sustainable label for the Seychelles tourism industry.
