ATLANTA, GA (September 16, 2008) – Following the wide success of the inaugural Green Day conference held earlier this year in Las Vegas, Hospitality Design (HD) magazine will present its second Green Day conference on September 16, 2008 from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Miami Beach Convention Center in South Florida. The conference, which is co-located at Hospitality Design Boutique Exposition & Conference (HD Boutique) will examine eco-conscious design and green building practices, and provide an open forum for exchanging ideas.

“Green Day is an important opportunity for industry leaders to combine their brain power, resources and experiences, and to conduct meaningful conversations on what it truly means to be eco-conscious in the hospitality field today,” says Michelle Finn, vice president, Hospitality Design Group. “The conference allows attendees to keep up with the latest green technology and trends of today to create sustainable design solutions for tomorrow.”

To get the conference started, Jessica Hogue, research director, CPG, Nielsen Online will present a keynote titled, Consumer Attitudes: A Measured Look at the Green Word on the Street. Presenting proprietary research conducted by Nielsen Online, Hogue will reveal what is most important to today’s consumers (and bloggers) when it comes to sustainability, and how businesses can capitalize on positive online buzz and avoid being slammed in a public forum.

Following the keynote, Tara Mastrelli, managing editor, HD magazine, will moderate the luncheon panel Envisioning the Green Hotel of the Future: Combining Technology and Imagination. Presenters Tim Center, vice president of sustainability initiatives, the Collins Center for Public Policy; Karrie Drinkhahn, IIDA, LEED AP, vice president/principal, Gettys; John Naranjo, designer, MRA Design; and Devon Smith, LEED AP, principal, Devon Smith Design Studio will discuss some of the latest concepts to come from the Hotel of Tomorrow (H.O.T.), the Search for Radical Innovation and next-generation designers: hotels functioning as living organisms, guests powering their own stays and water-filtration systems as lobby design elements.

Finally, attendees will be invited to think beyond green building and tap into the true power of sustainable hospitality in an afternoon session titled, Destination Stewardship: Sustainability Beyond the Basics. Carl Ede, principal, three Architecture; Robert McElwee, developer, Green Mill Village; Joe Andriola, principal, SB Architects and Faye Kass, owner, Kwanari ecolodge will join Mastrelli to discuss moving beyond thinking about the costs of developing responsibly to recognizing the long-term costs of not doing so.

Green Day is made possible by the generous support of: Aged Woods, Design Origins by Shaw, JLF/ lone meadow, Milliken Hospitality, P/Kaufmann Contract, and Valley Forge Fabrics, Inc.

Hospitality Design Boutique Exposition & Conference (HD Boutique) takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Florida on September 17-18, 2008 and is presented by the Hospitality Design Group, part of Nielsen Business Media, which also produces Hospitality Design Exposition & Conference (HD Expo) in Las Vegas on May 14-16, 2009. Hospitality Design magazine presents Green Day on September 16, 2008 and HD Summit in Duck Key, Florida from March 4-6, 2009. HD Boutique is in association with: GHR/Latin Press; International Interior Design Association (IIDA); International Society of Hospitality Purchasers (ISHP); American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and NEWH, Inc. – The Hospitality Industry Network.
